One day in the spring of 1995, I went into the studio and painted Poppy Dance, a work that signaled my departure from plein air landscapes.  While clearly still inspired by the natural world, what followed was a gradual distancing from representational forms and a slow embrace of a more abstract and less representational mode of expression.
